The journey began in 1997 when entrepreneur Elber Sales, then a business student, read a report suggesting government support for Craft Cachaça exports and its designation as a national spirit, akin to tequila in Mexico or vodka in Russia. Salinas, in northern Minas, was chosen not only for its renowned cachaças but also because his father had prior industry experience there. Cachaça Bandarra, on the market since 1999, began exporting to Germany, France, and Switzerland in 2001. Cachaça Bandarra Ouro 700ml is aged for three years in balsam wood barrels, a type native to Brazil. It is a light spirit with 40% alcohol content. Source: Cachaçaria Nacional.
