Bushmills Millennium Malt

Cask no 157, Tasted two Bottles no 157 and 79. This whiskey was originally laid down in 1975 in bourbon casks with the millennium in mind. Private investors were invited to purchase entire casks of the stuff long before it was bottled. What resulted is the longest aged Bushmills whiskey available. It has matured very well. Each cask was bottled unfiltered and taken down to 43% abv, with the label bearing the name of the cask owner, or whatever else they wanted to put on it. The whiskey was never intended to be released for general sale, but they do come up occasionally. Each cask will differ slightly in terms of flavour, but the general consensus is that they are very good whiskeys. There is no age statement on the bottles, but they're just about all 24 years old. Cask 368 is an absolutely fantastic whiskey. It was triple distilled in 1975 and bottled in 1999. It spent 16 years in a sherry hogshead and 8 years in an American Oak barrel. This was sold by private cask only between 1994 and 1996. There were 350 casks in total, with each cask yielding between 250 and 285 bottles. Most of it has been consumed. The spirit had a bit of sharpness in the middle, but was smooth overall. A spicy, buttery finish with some woody undertones. It becomes brighter with ice, without losing its depth.
