I've been strongly encouraged in online whisky communities to sample the well-known Bunnahabhain Staoisha bottlings from Signatory Vintage. From what I gather, these "Staoisha" bottlings are Bunnahabhains with peat, as the name originates from Lake Staoisha near the distillery. This particular one is aged for 8 years, produced on September 27, 2013, and bottled in June 2022 at 46% ABV. On the nose, it presents charred pineapple, reminiscent of toppings on unconventional pizzas, along with white chocolate and the scent of new shoes. There are also notes of dampness. On the palate, I found it surprisingly sweeter than anticipated. It offered vanilla and Ritter white chocolate. With the second taste, I detected smoky qualities of rubber and a hint of cotton socks. The finish is dominated by intense smoky characteristics: leather, rubber, and a spicy pepperiness. Ultimately, this didn't quite meet my expectations, especially given the numerous recommendations. It didn't really wow me, and the peat level felt moderate rather than overwhelming. A solid score of 21 for each category would result in a good overall rating of 84 out of 100.
