Sometimes, a spirit's youth doesn't dictate its quality. Consider the numerous young bottlings from Kilchoman or Ardnamurchan. Success hinges on fundamental execution: excellent casks and a superior distillate. This is one such example. Initially, seeing the ABV and 5-year age, I anticipated an overly potent, unrefined spirit. I was mistaken. The initial aroma reveals salinity and peat. The palate offers vanilla, lemon pepper, and sea salt. It has a lingering finish. It's remarkably well-made, reminiscent of an early-stage Talisker or Caol Ila. Around $45... buy it if you see it. Thanks to my associate for the sample pour!
