About this bottle

Bruichladdich reopened its distillery in 2001 and has since worked to build a significant supply of aged stock. The 2nd edition of the sought-after Bruichladdich 10 Year Old, released in December 2016, demonstrates the success of this effort. It was matured in first-fill bourbon, sherry, and French wine barrels. This bottling, with a global production of 18,000 bottles, is presented at 50% ABV.

This one truly improved over time for me. It began rather unremarkably, but really developed over the past few months. On the nose, I detect a slight mineral quality and then some fresh, vibrant fruit. The palate has a cool, salty initial taste then becomes spicy. The fruit notes carry through, and there's a hint of smoke, not peat, but more like the scorched interior of barrels you find in bourbons. The finish is lengthy, and I detect hints of licorice. Finished this last night. So enjoyable. It certainly became better after resting in the bottle for a while. A salty, mineral character really emerged. It was saline, fruity, and full-bodied. I'm going to miss this. While it shares many qualities with that other spirit, this one is not as polished nor as layered. 90/100

Upon initial opening, the aroma was fruity but seemed quite restrained, a characteristic that carried over to the palate. The finish possesses a pleasant lemony twist. However, adding a few drops significantly enhanced the aroma, though the finish still lacked butterscotch, instead presenting a Bunsen burner-like quality.

Perhaps the most flawlessly balanced single malt I've ever encountered, with incredible complexity from start to finish. Astonishing.

You will not be let down. At least, I was not. An intriguing whisky.

From a specific liquor store. Smooth and sweet with a very subtle smoky essence.
