Bruichladdich's Bere Barley single malt is derived from bere (pronounced "bear"), a barley variety primarily cultivated in Orkney, Scotland. The use of bere for alcohol production dates back to the 18th century. Unlike most barley types, which are two-row, bere barley is six-row. While it matures quickly, its yield is lower. This particular expression was made from bere grown in 2008 and distilled in 2009 at Bruichladdich. It is unpeated and bottled at 50% ABV.

Sweet and woody with notes of coffee and stewed fruit on the nose. Sweet, fiery, and a bit sharp on the palate with tastes of rich dark chocolate, fudge, and a hint of salty air. A heavy, creamy mouthfeel with a medium, lingering finish.
Appearance: light yellow, viscous Nose: subtle, sweet, citrus-like? Palate: sweet, potent Finish: peach, medium duration?
Tasted 2010: Pleasant round sweetness, a slight tingle, not smoky.
