Breckenridge Spiced Whiskey

This is my first time trying a spiced whiskey, and I'm intrigued. Smell: Evokes the holidays. It has the scent of a Christmas candle, full of cinnamon and clove. Appearance: Amber hue with medium-viscosity trails. Appears somewhat oily. Initial taste neat: It has a flavor reminiscent of what a Christmas candle might taste like. Dominant clove and cinnamon, lacking sufficient sweetness for balance. It's akin to steeping cloves and a cinnamon stick in alcohol overnight. Perhaps a hint of orange peel is present. However, it possesses a bitterness, much like a cinnamon stick. I truly wish for more sweetness; it would then evoke childhood holiday memories, though it wouldn't taste like bourbon. With water: It resembles unsweetened holiday-spiced tea sipped through a cinnamon stick. Aftertaste: Medium length, bitter. It feels like consuming a concentrated liquid version of a popular home fragrance store on a major sale day. What a letdown. It had potential. Nevertheless, I believe its true strength lies in fall-themed mixed drinks, such as a holiday Old Fashioned with orange bitters and a cinnamon stick garnish. I'm not completely dismissing it – I just won't be drinking it straight. It offers considerable potential for unique cocktails, though!

A Straight Bourbon Whiskey by a Master Distiller for a Colorado distillery made with a mash bill of 56% corn, 38% rye & 6% malted barley. Then put it in an open-top Scottish fermenter & distilled twice through a 550-gallon Kentucky-made copper pot still, then matured for at least 3 years in Char #3 American white oak casks, then brought to proof using the purest Rocky Mountain snowmelt from 14,000 feet. It has a fresh & aromatic birth with notes of under-ripe bananas & white pepper; while a spicy life adds notes of fruit, brown sugar, clove, rye, white pepper & toasted sesame; that led to a short & delicate death with notes of malted barley, thin honey & vanilla. April / September 2019 / August 2022

Great for the Fall/Winter. Sweet flavor but keep in mind that it’s 82 proof so it is not syrupy like other brands' products (which are delicious but a bit too sweet for me). Even if the spices were not in this, the whiskey would be considered a solid everyday drinker.

Tastes like the holidays. The spices bring back memories of Christmas and kin. It's decent, but I can only handle a little at a time. I bet it would be great in mixed drinks, though I only sampled it straight.

Sweet and spiced, evoking winter or holidays. Notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Smooth finish.

I appreciate the flavors, but the slight sweetness and viscosity gave it the character of inexpensive liquor.
