Braddock Oak Single Barrel Rye

I find this aroma very unappealing. It smells like soap and is thin and astringent. The palate reveals an underlying light and sweet spirit that could be enjoyable if not for these sour and harsh notes. I can't taste anything else for at least 5 minutes after sipping. Don't ruin your cocktails with this either; however, it does a decent job unclogging my sink. One point for the intoxication.

Let me reconsider this one. Received this as a gift from friends in January 2022. Currently on the last pour. Note that this is significantly better with a large ice cube. I'm increasing my initial rating because, as a sipper, the ice makes it acceptable. Otherwise, I've mixed it into whiskey mules, and it's always delicious!

Nose. Red wine and meat with a little bread. There’s wheat in this. Vinegar. Taste. Light mouthfeel. Mineral-like. Tastes like there’s barley in the mash bill, but there isn’t. Tastes like a rye single malt. Lots of honey and fruit. Stone fruit with mild spice.

A powerful wave of rye bread hits first, accompanied by woody notes and a touch of menthol. As the level drops, a malty sweetness emerges, along with some sourness, tanginess, and an earthy character. For a craft producer and a 100% rye, I found this to be quite good.

A well-rounded whiskey from Virginia. It starts aromatically with notes of rye, wood, herbs & spices. Its rich development adds notes of spice & oak, leading to a balanced, medium-length finish. April 2017 / August 2022

A bottle was received as a gift from friends. Tried it neat. I do detect a slight oak aroma with hints of sour cherries. On the palate, it's spicy with notes of pepper and cinnamon.
