The 4th limited release of Booker's Bourbon for 2015, this barrel-strength bottling honors the late Master Distiller Booker Noe. His son, Fred Noe, currently the 7th generation Master Distiller, developed this particular expression. It is inspired by a cherished family anecdote where Fred's grandmother, Annis Wickham Noe, unintentionally employed Booker's potent bourbon in place of a milder spirit to baste a pork roast. The high alcohol content ignited a small flame, causing the oven door to burst open, leading to the "Oven Buster" moniker. This batch was the second selection made by the Booker's Bourbon Roundtable, a group of authorities including Fred Minnick, Chuck Cowdery, Geoff Kleinman, John McCarthy, Jack Robertiello, and Tony Sachs. It is recommended to enjoy it neat with ice or diluted with a little water.

So, I sampled this with a steak dinner, then by itself, and finally in a comparison with the initial four Booker's releases from 2015. It was excellent with dinner, just average on its own, and dry like chalk when contrasted with the other releases in the series. Seriously, if you enjoy chalk with your oak and burnt sugar, this bourbon is for you. It's great served over ice as a summer drink.
I anticipate something unusual, frankly, based on what I've heard. Herbal notes are present on the nose. This is certainly drier compared to other batches. The spice is agreeable and stays on the tongue... for ages. The heat is comparable to Booker's. I believe this is an innovative approach. I do favor the traditional Booker's profile, but I can appreciate this. 8/17/18
This expression differs from other Booker's bourbons. The notes of roasted meat and thyme are precise. I enjoy this while outdoors, grilling on my Big Green Egg. It's uniquely good. While not my go-to for everyday sipping, it's a quality bourbon. 90/100
The nose presents oak, caramel, and vanilla. It glides smoothly over the front of the palate, reaching the center with charcoal, oak, and rye. The peppery heat of the rye then emerges for a warm, yet balanced conclusion.
The tasting notes are accurate. It's very dry and incredibly potent. I don't find it very complex. I added an ice cube.
I won't claim to be an expert. I simply adore this series of Booker's Batch.
