Town Branch Bourbon

Found at my neighborhood store as a Barrel Pick, this absolutely amazed me. It's a genuinely unique Bourbon, offering surprising tastes and redefining my perception of what Bourbon can be. Should you seek the typical, and to my taste, somewhat dull characteristics of a Bourbon, then this drink isn't for you. However, if you appreciate something unconventional that broadens the scope of Bourbon flavors, this bottle deserves a spot in your collection. At minimum, you'll possess a delightful new whiskey, even if it deviates from standard Bourbon profiles.

A reliable pour, excellent for Old Fashioneds. I've seen varied opinions on Town Branch (and many other spirits), but for under $40, it's worth trying. Bought a bottle and it's fantastic for its cost - excellent value! Neat: abundant caramel, oak, and dried orchard fruits. Mixed: it's unbeatable in an Old Fashioned; the whiskey's character enhances the cocktail, and at 90 proof, it has just enough alcohol to balance the drink.

Trying this brand again after seeing new packaging. Noticed it's now higher proof than my older bottle. It has a great color immediately, with a nose of apricot and nectarine. The mouthfeel is soft, but only in terms of heat; as anticipated, there's plenty of stone fruit flavor throughout. Enjoyable, and works well in an old fashioned, with the cherry and nectarine complementing the drink's elements.

Aroma - subdued, sweet, faintly oaky Taste - very subdued and delicate, begins with vanilla and mild oak, then shifts to herbal and licorice notes. Finish - the lingering aftertaste is strongly licorice and herbal. Summary - a mellow spirit for daily consumption. The flavors aren't my usual preference for bourbon. Its aftertaste persists to a Malort-like degree. However, it might perform well in the right mixed drink.

The nose smells like grainy bread. It begins with a sweet, slightly caramel taste with a little sharpness. The smoke is very faint, and the mid-palate is smooth and sweetly complex with vanilla and caramel flavors. The finish has just the right amount of sharpness and warmth. This is a nice whiskey for sipping and is somewhat reminiscent of another brand, but lighter.

Flaviar 11/14/21 “B” - [ ] A persistent bubble upon pouring suggested around 90-99 proof. The aroma was stunning, offering notes of ethanol, butterscotch, and caramel. The initial taste was terrible, with a harsh barley flavor I dislike, which then transitioned into caramel and a surprisingly pleasant, slow-blooming floral rye finish. The body felt light to medium. The barley presence was too strong for me to consider repurchasing.
