Bomberger's Declaration (2025 Release)

I'd describe this as a very standard whiskey at best. Knowing it's no-age-statement, but considering the price and buzz, I definitely expected more, especially with a professional review score of 93 from a critic. It's certainly not bad, but ECBP, Knob Creek 12, or even Rare Breed are superior for my palate. If this were a $65 bottle, it would get 4 stars, but given the price and hype, I'm reducing it to 3. I might revise my rating if it improves over time. To be fair, it's only been open for 4 weeks with 2 ounces remaining since first opened. I wouldn't repurchase it even at $50, but perhaps with time (after a year with a half bottle remaining) it will get better.

I will change my score on the slight chance it opens up. To be fair, this is also my first taste of Michter's juice; won't be looking for others...

Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium-dark amber. Nose: Hints of sweet cornbread and applesauce with raisins. Palate: Cinnamon, clove, baking spice, and dry oak. Finish: Warm heat and a lengthy duration. Splash: The oaky notes emerge as the spicier cinnamon notes are subdued. Overall: 9.5/10 - I was fortunate to find a place with several bottles close to MSRP, and had to return when I got paid. This truly lives up to the hype, and is every bit as good as I recall previous years' releases. Outstanding!

It arrived with a lot of buzz, and I get why, but this was a letdown. I thought I'd found something worthwhile to grab if you happen upon it, but next time I'll skip. Nothing wrong with it, just uninteresting, dull, lacking personality, like a dish with no seasoning or taste.
