Blue Run Kentucky Straight Cask Strength Rye (2021 Holiday Edition)

Reviewing this spirit for the third time. It really benefits from some warming up. Usually, I do that for high proof options, but this one demands a sharp palate. I'd recommend experiencing two very different expressions before diving into this gem. This is an incredibly floral spirit, like a whole bouquet of bourbon. You'll detect roses on the nose and rose water on the palate. It also has a strong alcohol presence, which is quite enjoyable. The palate and finish blend together perfectly. Imagine a light, flaky cinnamon pastry with a whisper of lemon. It's ridiculously expensive at your hotel's lobby, yet you find yourself buying it each morning. This one is a delightful 106 proof. Upon opening, it immediately reveals notes of apples and baking spices. It's like a holiday dessert in a bottle. I detect notes of brown sugar, maple syrup, cherries, and all the best aspects of the holiday season. I'm genuinely impressed with what this distillery has achieved with their Rye Whiskey.

Drinking it neat. The aroma is pleasing. A pleasant sweet taste emerges, followed by spiced cherry, and then a warmth on the rear of the mouth. I find it enjoyable. It possesses considerable character and is a smooth sipper. The cost is debatable.

This enjoyable rye is light on spice and dangerously easy to drink. Its sweeter notes of cherry make it a favorite.

The constant question with Blue Run is if the price is justified. I think not, but it remains a very good rye.

This one has a lot of spice and the most flavor among the three I've tried.
