Blair Athol 11 Year Old 2009 (A.D. Rattray Cask Collection)

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 08 January 2021). Nose: Toffee, caramel, bready, with a slight funk. Palate: Feels 'hot' and spirit-forward, with bready/malty/gristy characteristics. There's a creaminess present, reminiscent of crème brûlée or burnt sugar/caramel. Finish: It's numbing, with nutty/woody notes lingering. This is quite a complex and interesting dram, though I'm uncertain if it suits my personal taste. It's primarily used in Bell's blended whiskies, serving as a key malt in the blend. Its profile comes through in the flavor, but with a much creamier mouthfeel. It's a little harsh, but the creamy mouthfeel creates a rather peculiar sensation. I'd characterize this as an old-fashioned, spirit-forward whisky. Malt from the Glen Ord distillery. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the tasting live, but the team at GSC kindly sent me a recording to view later. This meant I missed seeing the results of the final poll.
