Black Butte, a collaboration between Deschutes Brewery and Bendistillery in Oregon, was first introduced in limited quantities in December 2017. This American malt is produced from the wash of the brewery's Black Butte Porter beer. It matures for 3 years in #4 char American oak and is bottled at 47% ABV.

Rich and dark with an intriguing scent. There are certainly notes I can't quite identify. Stout and dark medicinal flavors are present on the palate. I also detect nuts, possibly walnuts. It's rich and potent, with an excellent complement to its dark character. Superb.
A gift from a good friend. Excellent bourbon, featuring spice, oak, dark chocolate, coffee, and some toffee. It possesses good depth, leading to a long-lasting flavor. I'm unlikely to experience it again, but it was great while it lasted.
Distinctive and engaging. As someone who enjoys Black Butte Porter, I detect many comparable notes. The nose is slightly sharp. Clear notes of chocolate are present, along with some coffee. I think it's best served with a single ice cube.
It's decent, but it didn't wow me. It has a porter character that some folks really enjoy. Plenty of earthy notes. The sherry-finished iteration is superior; the port finish isn't very good.
A touch of cinnamon and fig comes through, perhaps? For sure, there's chocolate and coffee. The finishes from Port and Sherry are overly sweet, masking the flavor of the barrels.
It's intriguingly different! Shows notes of dark chocolate and coffee with a delightful finish. Age is not the only factor!
