The aroma was surprisingly light, considering the first sip delivered an immediate, full-bodied smoke that coursed straight down the throat. The finish wasn't long but provided a rounded hint of oak. Pleasantly amazed, a great find.

About this bottle
Launched in May 2022, Benriach Smoky Quarter Cask commemorates a period in the early 1970s when the Speyside distillery returned to 19th-century whisky-making methods, utilizing malted barley smoked with Highland peat. This expression combines unpeated and peated single malts, initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Subsequently, the whisky was transferred to specially made quarter casks for the final stages of its maturation. It is bottled with its natural color at 46% ABV.

Nose: Smoke, ash, vanilla, pear, lemon Palate: Smoke, brine, ash, pear, nuts Finish: Smoke, ash, lemon, nuts Actually one of the excellent non-age-statement bottlings available.
Lemon initially, followed by sweet vanilla and green apple on the palate. The smoke appears in the ashy finish. A very enjoyable drink.
Pale red hue. Sweet, smooth, and smoky with a malty oak conclusion. A very pleasant sipper!
It's hard to find a better everyday drinker than this one. Pleasant, smooth, and smoky.
A smoky, buttery quality, similar to what is described as 'smök' in Sweden.
