Ben Nevis Traditional

Nose: Smoky peat, campfire aroma, citrus, and honey. A faint coastal hint is present but not salty. Adding a bit of water reveals floral scents. Palate: A sweet citrus initial taste is quickly followed by pepper and capsicum, yet the sweetness remains the primary characteristic. Notes of white grapes, vanilla, brown sugar or treacle, and ginger biscuits emerge. The texture is rich and satisfying. Diluting it makes the later flavors sweeter and more like nectar. Finish: Moderate to Long. Sweet, honey-like peat, reminiscent of a spiced Highland Park. Water extends the finish. Some years back, Ben Nevis put out a bottling named “McDonald’s Celebrated Traditional” in a unique tall bottle with vintage packaging. It was available for a short time before vanishing, but this new version, simply labeled “Traditional,” has now been released and appears to be part of their standard offerings. I'm uncertain if this malt is identical to the earlier bottling (I do have a bottle of “McDonald’s Celebrated” set aside, but it remains unopened). Nevertheless, this is a wonderful whisky, earning an unequivocal "excellent" rating from me. Highly recommended for fans of peated single malts. Tasted at Ben Nevis distillery on April 9, 2025. Tried neat with a friend. Peaty and earthy on the nose, sweat on the palate with slight smoke. Thanks for sharing from Scotland!

Subtle peat, coastal air, pear, malted barley. Smooth and easy to drink.
