About this bottle

Australia's most established distillery, Beenleigh, produces this rum in Queensland. It's crafted with molasses from the Rocky Point sugar mill, located 15 km away, and aged in ex-bourbon barrels after being vatted in ex-brandy casks. Beenleigh holds iconic status in the rum industry, and its 5-year-old expression has earned multiple accolades. Currently, this rum is exclusively sold within Australia.

Dominique Boyd 4.3

A review of the Beenleigh 5 year old double cask rum. The presentation of the bottle is appealingly minimalist, with a vintage aesthetic. The glass features '1884' and 'Beenleigh' inscriptions, though no box is provided. On the nose, a surge of sweet notes like vanilla, bourbon from the casks, cane sugar, and raisins emerges, with a noticeable hint of alcohol. After allowing the bottle to air for a few minutes, the sweet characteristics intensify pleasingly. Rated 4/5. Served on ice, on the palate. It's smooth, with spicy, sweet, and oaky flavors, and a slight alcoholic sharpness. The second taste is considerably smoother in its conclusion. Rated 4/5. I would suggest pairing this with a mixer that complements rather than overwhelms the flavors. For my preference, it was excellent on ice. Considering its price, this is a very commendable rum.

Smells like molasses, dried plums, dates, and coconut. Tastes of molasses, honey, vanilla, caramel, liquorice, plum, and a whisper of peppery spice.

I'm still undecided if this is meant for sipping or mixing. I'm leaning towards mixing.
