Bathtub Gin

Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Bathtub Gin - Old Tom Gin is a very good, potent, traditional style of gin that was highly fashionable in 18th and 19th century England. Old Tom is a slightly sweetened gin, developed at the request of The Handmade Cocktail Company, which sought a flavorful Old Tom gin for use in their Martinez cocktail. It possesses an aromatic beginning with notes of fruit, citrus, and botanicals; a light and sweet middle introduced notes of juniper and orange; leading to a clean conclusion with a hint of pepper. I had a serving of this while on a business trip in Denver. The hotel bar had no good whiskey, and no respectable mezcal... so I settled for this. It felt like high school prom all over again. The jocks got the first choice. The popular kids in leather jackets got second picks. Those of us in advanced math class... well, I might as well have stayed home. It was the same with this gin. My $6 would have been better kept in my wallet.

Strong cardamom flavor comes through. A bit too potent, overpowering all other more delicate tastes.

Not enjoyable at all. I actually discarded it. I own 30 or more gins, so it's not that I dislike gin!

Pungent, alcoholic, with notes of cardamom and juniper, similar to "Goldwasser" essence

Aromatic and sweet - works well with mint and cucumber
