Barrell Bourbon Batch 024

Enjoying neat, this is the second pour from the bottle. This bottle lingered on my shelf, eventually getting pushed to the back. I'd completely forgotten about it until I was tidying up, and it was a welcome discovery. Just a bit dusty, I purchased it back in 2020. This one immediately jumps from the glass with potent sweetness and orange peel. The flavors shift between vanilla, cinnamon, and fragrant spices. The sweetness is similar to corn syrup or light brown sugar. You detect tobacco and leather in the lingering finish. The heat is quite enjoyable. If you've seen some of my past reviews, I generally appreciate whiskeys bottled at 110 proof or higher. While I don't mind Bottled-in-Bond, I think that's where you really get the best value at that proof level. Citrus and nuttiness continue. I nearly noticed walnuts on the aroma. The finish has aged leather with a sophisticated woodiness. I like this one, though the price point still seems a bit odd. When you're at the higher end of bourbon prices, I expect consistently good liquid. Unfortunately, I can't say that about the Barrell barre proof releases, but if you come across 024, it's definitely a winner. Cheers!

Quite intriguing. The scent initially suggested youthfulness, deceiving me. However, everything else indicated otherwise. Hazelnut scent... The texture is among the most viscous I've encountered. Flavor is rich and tastes of winter spice, deeper than typical Rye spice. Still, there's a definite mint element. Fruit notes and the nuttiness reappear. Hints of pine and certainly good oak depth. I'm not entirely convinced about the hazelnut scent, but I'll go with it. It's nice and warming on the finish... Time to add a few drops of water. With water, the spice erupts and reveals hot cinnamon. Some menthol is present too.

A fragrant nose that stings. Abundant aromas, including almond paste, tart fruit, honey, wood, musk, sweet pickles, taffy, boiled peanuts, butter, and cream cheese frosting – wow, one of the best aromas I've experienced in a while. On the palate, it's sweet and nutty... with some cherry, black pepper, subtle cacao nibs, and bitter walnut, peanut brittle. Lingering cinnamon extends down the chest. The finish is a bit too bitter for my usual preference, resulting in a slight deduction. But there's much to appreciate here. 6/19/2020

This is my initial experience with a Barrell Bourbon product, received as a blind sample. It possesses a rich amber hue, with alcohol and light vanilla on the nose. The palate features pleasant, rich caramel notes with just a subtle hint of citrus and chocolate. It has a nice spicy sweetness. Near the finish, I detect hints of leather and oak, with a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. While not completely astounding, it was an enjoyable sip.

Nose - rich and spicy, with notes of cinnamon, barrel spices, dark caramel, charred citrus peel, almonds, and some vanilla. Palate - thick texture, featuring cherry and cinnamon, dark caramel, a hint of bitter orange peel, sweet creamy vanilla, barrel spices again, and mild tannin bitterness. Finish - a long-lasting spice and dark sweetness, the bitterness fades, leaving a deep yet comforting warmth.

The aroma presents raw corn, a nutty quality, and a strong Tennessee style that I appreciate, yet it doesn't overpower, allowing the oaky and spicy notes from Kentucky and Indiana to also come through; the palate brings more oak and dark fruit with spicy notes while the Tennessee character takes a step back but remains present; the finish is dark and sweet.
