It concludes with spearmint, cloves, anise, and polished oak, showing minimal alcohol burn. The palate has a medium body, starting with a mix of mangoes sauteed in powdered sugar, dehydrated apricots, fresh pumpernickel bread, and earthy barn smells. A mild bitter spice quickly fades to reveal dark chocolate-covered pretzels, espresso, candied pecans, and subtle herbs. Next come raspberry sorbet, tangerine, and caramelized peaches, leading to charred caraway seeds, light flinty minerality, cloves, anise, and mildly bitter black tea, with a medium alcohol burn. The finish is medium in length, featuring dark chocolate mocha, candied orange peel, fresh pumpernickel bread, anise, light flinty minerality, and mildly bitter black tea. This is a highly enjoyable, easy-drinking spirit. It is well-crafted, with the three grains each contributing distinct flavors that harmonize effectively, complemented by a light Texas wood character in a balanced fusion. My only criticism is that the flavors are less intense than I prefer; I wish they were richer and bolder. Nevertheless, this is a spirit I would gladly revisit, as it's a balanced, intriguing, and unique easy sipper that I believe many would appreciate, especially at its accessible price point of around $60. Nose: Toffee, red fruit, apple, caramel, tropical fruit, pecan pie, coconut, herbal, nutty. The foundational elements of bourbon, single malt, and rye are all present, reflecting the character of different Balcones whiskies. Truly impressive. Palate: Red fruit, sweet bread, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup, dark chocolate, candied cinnamon. Finish: Sweet and spicy with fresh red fruit, strawberry, baked bread, cinnamon, subtle woody notes with char and tannin, some rye herbal notes, dark chocolate. This is my second bottle, and I can't get enough of it. It's a flawless blend with very clear and enjoyable notes of bourbon, single malt, and rye, specifically from Balcones. The sweet frosting notes of their bourbons blend perfectly with the fruity and bready notes of their single malts, while also harmonizing with their high rye bourbons and straight ryes. It's hard to articulate, but it's like a mix of True Blue, a good single barrel of their Single Malt, and the High Rye Bourbon (which carries the chocolate note of the Rye but less intensely). On the nose, I get brown sugar, charcoal, maple, raisin, date, fig, and mesquite. It's nicely pungent, but a mild ethanol undertone is distracting. The palate follows the nose but adds creme brûlée, birthday cake icing, vanilla, caramel, and cocoa nibs. Some creamed corn appears in the mid-palate. It's rich, decadent, sweet, and dessert-like. The finish carries these flavors forward before shifting to Red Hots candy, chili pepper, mint, and sweet oak. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and silky, complementing the flavor profile perfectly. As someone who reviews many Balcones whiskies, I suppose you could say I'm a fan. I've found that the best Balcones expressions are often subdued, and this is one of those. While some of their offerings are overpowering, this one is more refined. At $53, I think the price is appropriate. It's among the better whiskies in the Balcones range.

Aroma: honey, caramel, and vanilla Taste: caramel, barrel spice, and Texas funk. I'm not sure what 'Texas funk' is, but as a Texan who has sampled many Texas spirits, this certainly possesses that quality. Finish: Long and lingering. You could call it a Texas hug. There's a faint floral note at the very end, similar to juniper berry. Overall: A decent pour. A very distinctive bourbon. I would gladly have another glass.

Tasted with a friend. The aroma is musty and dessert-like, with notes of roasted corn, toffee, figs, raisins, nuts, rye, sweet cherries, caramel apples, and black pepper. It has mild heat, sweetness, and flavors of grain, dark fruits, flowers, caramel, sweet corn, oak, and barrel spice. The finish is a lingering peppery sensation.

Tried neat with a friend at their speakeasy. On the nose, it's young with notes of wheat, wood, smoke, and grain. On the palate, I taste char, toast, heat and spice, vanilla, strong caramel, and green apple. Smokey and lovely.
