Balcones Pilgrimage After Peat (2023 ed.)

It resembles a blend of Lineage and The Peated. It has the strong peach flavor of Lineage, along with some smoke and heat from The Peated. It benefits from a good amount of water. A subtle smoke backbone is present throughout, but no peat. Peach is prominent, alongside some slightly overcooked pie crust. A touch of honey, apple, pepper, and I wouldn't have mentioned bay leaf if I hadn't seen it in Balcones' own tasting notes, but I think it's a good way to describe the herbal hint. An interesting and enjoyable whiskey, and I'm thrilled to have a bottle, a gift from a friend who purchased it at the distillery.

Tasted and purchased at the distillery in Waco last summer. Aged 4 years and 1 month. Non-chill filtered. This single malt is the distillation of an unpeated malt mash that was run after the distillation of a heavily peated single malt in a copper pot still. I enjoyed this a lot. Definitely get a lot of funk, which some may not enjoy. There is peach, citrus, pear, honey, with a light peat smokiness lingering in the background. Balanced and really complex.

Notes of honeydew, cooked caramel apples, mint, fresh pancakes, vanilla icing, and eucalyptus. The rich palate presents mint, honey, caramel, and cinnamon.
