About this bottle

Whiskey produced by Balcones in Waco, Texas, was finished in barrels sourced from Houston's Saint Arnold Brewing Company. These barrels, used to celebrate the brewery's 25th anniversary, had previously held a blend of three beers: a Belgian-style quadrupel, a Russian imperial stout, and an English-style barleywine. The whiskey is bottled at 55% ABV.

Aroma: sweet malt, burnt sugar, ethanol Taste: I was surprised by the thick malty richness and abundant simple syrup upfront, which then shifted to banana and yeasty notes from the beer barrel. Finish: surprisingly robust oak, brown sugar, simple syrup, and a mild yeast aftertaste I'm giving this a high score because it's very well-executed for its intended purpose. It's not my personal preference, but I'm glad I had the chance to taste it.

Sweeter than many other whiskies from this distillery, but quite pleasing. It has a smooth, fruity taste and a powerful caramel aroma. Best enjoyed with ice.
