I sampled this during my resort stay. It's somewhat between a whiskey and a rum, offering the oaky character of whiskey with the sweetness of rum. It lacks complexity and depth but isn't disagreeable.

About this bottle
This rum undergoes aging for up to three years in charred oak barrels. Its designation, 1873, recalls a significant international event from that year involving the US, the UK, and Spain, which held control over Cuba at the time. The incident, known as the Virginius Affair, involved the capture of the Virginius, an American-owned vessel carrying contraband and weapons to Cuban rebels, by the Spanish. Following the capture, 53 crew members and passengers, including American civilians and British subjects, were court-martialed and executed by the Spaniards. This rum serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives.
