About this bottle

This Lowland single malt is triple distilled and exclusively aged in ex-bourbon barrels. Auchentoshan Classic serves as the brand's introductory whisky; however, this role was transitioned to Auchentoshan American Oak around mid-2014.

Jewell Church 4.0

This was actually the 12-year single malt. The color was a rich gold and amber. On the nose, it was fruity, fresh, and medicinal. The first taste had a rising heat, followed by a soft, light finish with citrus notes appearing after a few minutes. The second taste brought more heat and a shorter finish. The third tasting revealed improved flavors and more spices.

Kieran Cash 3.0

Nose: vanilla and coconut (as expected), peach, a bit of hazelnut. Taste: sweet, pear, a bit of white chocolate. Aftertaste: bittersweet, warm but short. Overall: a pleasant, easy-drinking single malt. Nothing exceptional, but worth the price.

Leon Royal 2.0

This was a letdown compared to the three wood; it was somewhat disappointing. It had fruity, smooth, sweet (vanilla-like) notes, but lacked depth. I felt unsatisfied and left wanting more.

Joe Douglass 3.0

Triple distilled, has a good warmth, a pleasant lingering sensation, and is an excellent Scotch for $40. Nicely smooth and mellow, sweeter & lighter, yet still complex. A good change of pace.

Angelita Blue 4.0

As this was my introduction to whisky, a companion suggested I start with this. It has a pleasant warmth but a subtler finish, which I appreciated as a beginner.

Augustus Kruger 3.0

While not the finest bottle of scotch, it's pleasant to serve when hosting a group. The price is also reasonable. Adding a cube or a drop of ice softens the intensity.
