Lakeisha Crum 3.8

The aroma carries a scent of ash, like damp bonfire cinders, followed by raisins, wet straw, and a faint touch of peat. The initial taste has a slight burn, but it's acceptable for a 50% ABV. Despite the ashy nose, the palate doesn't begin with smoke. Instead, it offers a fruit medley before the influence of Sherry casks emerges, introducing raisins, figs, and subtle nuts, eventually transitioning to dark chocolate and spicy green pepper for the conclusion. It coats the glass well, similar to the Infinite Loch, but lacks that same creamy richness. The ash from the nose doesn't overwhelm but lingers after the flavors fade, leaving a dryness that persists for a minute or more. Adding a bit of water doesn't alter the nose but does reveal some tangerine citrus that lasts from the start through the middle of the palate, and the finish becomes just a little less peppery. If forced to choose, I'd say the Infinite Loch is more consistently balanced, but since this aligns better with my preferred flavors, it earns a higher rating. This is another commendable bottle from the newest distillery on Islay, and one worth trying if you have the opportunity.
