Archie Rose Distillery event on November 29th, 2020, sample #3 Nose: Juniper, dried citrus zest, and herbaceous lemon notes. An unusual papery scent is present. Palate: A gentle introduction of strawberry and mint, followed by citrus as it develops. A spicy warmth emerges later. The texture is average. Finish: Brief. Fruity notes linger. This is one of Archie Rose’s “tailored gins”, a collaboration with the National Gallery of Australia supporting their #KNOWMYNAME initiative celebrating Australian women artists in 2020-21. Archie Rose has produced similar commissioned gins. The official description mentions a bright character with Australian botanicals like strawberry gum, pink peppercorn, river mint, and orange peel. This aligns with my impression, though I also detected a distinct waxy-papery aroma, possibly from Sydney waxflowers. A decent gin, but not among the most captivating I've encountered, and certainly not the best from Archie Rose. It was quite unremarkable, and considering the high cost, I cannot suggest it. Rating: 76/100 (2.5 stars)
