Andalusia Triple Distilled Texas Single Malt

A distillery tour took place today. Andalusia Whiskey Company is situated in the picturesque Texas Hill Country, about an hour from Austin or San Antonio. They handle all their own barley smoking, as well as aging and bottling on their premises. Among Texas distilleries, they receive considerable media attention, having been featured in Texas Monthly and Whisky Advocate. This particular expression was not very engaging. There were no significant flaws, but it was simply... present. Lacking in substantial flavor. Nothing objectionable, though. I must admit, the standard version did not impress me, but they offered a special edition at the distillery, finished in a PX cask and served at cask strength, which was considerably better. It really brought out more of the subtle characteristics of this spirit.

This is the closest I've gotten to Irish whiskey made in the US. The taste is a bit young, but it's as smooth as any respectable Irish whiskey. The price per bottle doesn't match its quality... a price around $40 would be more fitting. I appreciate supporting a local distillery, especially one exploring unconventional products, but at $60 a bottle, it's competing with Redbreast.

If Ireland and Texas had a child, this would be it. The nose initially presents Texas burnt molasses and cinnamon but transitions to a robust Irish malt aroma. The palate features cinnamon and apples with some pepper on the finish and an A&W cream soda aftertaste!

This is like bananas foster in a glass. A hint of honey, a dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg, and bubblegum sweetness. Light and smooth due to the triple distillation in the Irish style. It becomes somewhat creamy with a little water.

Honey on the nose, with a touch more oak than a typical Irish whiskey. The palate presents wood, honey, and vanilla, similar to a young Irish spirit. It's smooth with a brief finish. Enjoyable.

Aroma: Initially cantaloupe, evolving into vanilla frosting after a few sips. Taste: Malty and spicy, with a relatively short conclusion.
