anCnoc Black Hill Reserve

Nose: Sweetness, powdered sugar, light floral, citrus, orange, vanilla, buttery, candied fruits, coconut, spicy, slightly woody, subtly fruity and fresh. Palate: Noticeable sweetness, pleasant spice, light woodiness, smooth butteriness, the bitterness from tannins is well-balanced with the sweetness, citrus, orange peel, and vanilla. Finish: Medium to short. Bitterness and sweetness are quite present, but the bitterness quickly fades, leaving the sweetness and a light residual spice. The mouth begins to salivate again quickly. Overall Impressions: A whisky with no defined age (though suggesting around 5 or 6 years old), but well-crafted. I had the impression that young oak barrels were used in its construction, but they were definitely of good quality. Despite being NAS, it has good balance and surprises with spicy notes on the palate, as the aroma was very smooth. The absence of chill-filtration and the use of first-fill ex-bourbon barrels made a significant difference for this single malt. I recommend it neat, after about 5 minutes of resting in the glass, or with a few drops of water.

Nice light color and texture, a hint of vanilla and fruit! Goes wonderfully between Mikkeller beers:)

A straightforward single malt. But it's not bad. It tastes young, but the first-fill bourbon casks have treated it well.

This is the initial whiskey I've encountered that I can't say I enjoy. It possesses an excessive amount of undesirable characteristics.
