A.H. Riise XO King Haakon Royal Reserve

A rich, aged Saint Croix Rum from Denmark's A.H. Riise Distillery, crafted from fresh molasses distillate originating from the Cruzan Distillery on Saint Thomas and aged for 6 years. The nose is aromatic, with notes of toasted coconut, warm butter toffee, and vanilla cake. The palate is rich, presenting notes of apple, fresh pineapple, and ginger cookies. The finish is spicy and of moderate length, with notes of vanilla fudge and caramel. May 2020

A very sweet attacking rum, but the mix of vanilla, coconut and red fruit notes balances it in the mouth. Slightly spicy finish, but less "gingerbread" and orange than the brand's other rums. Nose also focused on vanilla. A very pleasant overall despite the relatively high price.
