291 Barrel Proof Single Barrel Colorado Whiskey

This beautiful rye displays a deep copper hue with delicate, slow-moving legs clinging to the glass. The intricate aroma from this specific barrel presents hints of sweet cinnamon sugar toast, cherry, grilled corn, cherry candy, BBQ char, damp forest floor, barn straw, a mix of salted nuts, aspen dust, alongside honey and florals. Adding a bit of water enhances the floral and grassy qualities, bringing out notes of salted pecan and orange. The palate offers a smooth texture and begins with a characteristic high-proof warmth. Flavors include oatmeal raisin cookie, caramelized sugar, milk chocolate, and cooked green vegetables. Diluting it further reveals more bright orange citrus notes. The lingering finish starts with spice that gradually mellows into a minty freshness. This tasting is coincidentally for barrel 599 from Distillery 291's barrel proof flagship rye. The nose is stunning, the taste is robust, and it's my top rye pick so far! Absolutely worth trying. Enjoy!

The aroma is hot and spicy, with hints of wood, nuts, cherry, vanilla, and honey, along with pear. The palate is hot but smooth, with notes of alcohol, wood, cinnamon, and fruit.

Smells of cinnamon, vanilla, char, wood, grape, and apple. The taste is sweet and fruity with caramel, cinnamon, apple, stewed pears, and grapes. The finish is spicy. Truly rich. My thanks to a friend.

The finish is rough when consumed neat, but it's much improved with ice. It has a lot of spice, possibly cinnamon, but other notes are indistinguishable.

In my opinion, this leans towards the sweeter side, and more than any other whiskey, I detect leather notes. It's exceptionally good. Absolutely love it.
