Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malt (2019 Release)

The aroma is clearly peated, but with a sweet smokiness. The taste is gently smoky with some dried citrus and evident peat. My initial feeling is that it's a bit young, but I don't mind a young peaty dram. The peat and smoke have an almost floral quality, which is very mild and quite warming. It doesn't coat the mouth or overpower the palate like some of the intensely peated, young Islays currently available. It has a very long, mild peaty and smoky finish. Still has a sweet and almost fruity wood smoke character. It's an intriguing dram. Not complicated, but the peat and smoke are so mild and different from any other peaty whisky I can recall. It's much milder than any peaty Islay or Campbeltown whiskies, possessing its own pleasant character. It tastes a little too young right now, but it shows potential for some of their future (hopefully more aged) releases. I've used the word 'mild' several times, and that's my overall impression – mild, floral, and peaty. Not bad at all.

Pure smoke, that's all there is.
