Yamazakura Fine Blended Whisky Black Label

I don't mean to be unkind, but this whisky possesses no redeeming qualities. It drinks quite hot despite being only 40% ABV, suggesting it's very young, likely the minimum 2 years of aging required for whisky classification. The nose suggests a mix of rubbing alcohol and faint smoke. The palate has an astringent, malty flavor with little else, perhaps a touch of lemon pith? It shows no development or complexity as you hold it in your mouth, trying in vain to find something pleasant. If you enjoy drinking cheap vodka straight, this is the whisky for you.

Sweetness, moderate heat, gentle notes of flowers and berries - rated 2. Thin and lacking depth, yet drinkable with no burn - unusual, floral element - rated 1.5. No smoke, but smooth with a short duration - rated 1.5. Fruity, floral, sweet, zesty - rated 2. Sweet, floral, mild - rated 3. Lingering heat - rated 1.75. Overall rating: 2.25. Peppery, complex, sharp, with vanilla notes - rated 2. Peppery, creamy vanilla, sweetness, pear - apart from the heat, the rest is commendable - rated 2.5. Moderate sustain, with oak and wood characteristics - rated 2.

Quite disappointing. The aroma is mostly smoky with fruit hints (which I can't identify because it's so bland). The palate lacks impact and body, and the finish is virtually nonexistent. Imagine a blend of water, sugar, and a cigarette.

Frankly, it warrants no extended commentary. It's so terrible, I can't fathom consuming anything worse. The aroma is metallic, and the flavor is alcohol-forward. The finish is brief, but who would desire a prolonged conclusion to this... Truly abysmal execution. The blender should be dismissed.

The aroma presents sweetness with hints of caramel and fruit. On the palate, there's light smoke and less complexity, making it easy to consume. It's a good option for those curious about smoky spirits without diving into heavy Scotches.

This isn't as awful as some opinions suggest. That said, it's a totally forgettable whisky. It has the taste of a grain-forward, budget blended Scotch.
