Smell - Sweet fruity caramel, bright red maraschino cherries, cinnamon, mint, malted milk Taste - Slightly drying, dried cherries & cranberries, caramel, cinnamon, milk chocolate Aftertaste - Lasting cinnamon char & spice, caramel, light oak, dried cherries Score - 87/100 Final Thoughts - This was a nice variation on their standard release, which I haven't sampled in some time as I still have a supply of their cask strength versions. This offered a pleasant bright neon red maraschino cherry characteristic along with a light charred cinnamon and raisin note. It was a good complement to the usual caramel/cinnamon/vanilla notes, adding a hint of vibrant red dried fruits. Decadent aroma, light and sweet with wine notes overlaying vanilla and caramel. The flavors mostly appear at the end, with an avalanche of tannin and sherry sweetness. One of those intriguing crescendo whiskies. Some oak and lighter spice. You don't often get this level of power and flavor from something this age; it's fantastic.
The nose presents dark fruit, oakiness, and young bourbon notes. The palate is light-bodied with hints of dark fruit. The finish is short and dry. The young, high-rye bourbon (5 years old) overshadowed the sherry influence.
