Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-01 "Big Man, Small Batch"

98?! This is undoubtedly one of the poorest batches of Booker's I've encountered in the 12 years I've been a fan. Lacks complexity, features low-quality notes in conflict, and like most Booker's, it's excessively hot for its proof-- which I easily overlook when Booker's is at its best. Bribe a critic, get a 98, imagine that. Most of the "special release" Booker's have been quite disappointing compared to many standard bottlings. It's always been a hit-or-miss brand, but assigning this batch a 98 damages its reputation.

Nose: honey-roasted peanuts, vanilla, caramel candies, dark fruits. Palate: salted peanuts, Spanish peanuts, vanilla bean, toasted oak, dark fruits, cherry, caramel. Finish: A lengthy, full-bodied conclusion of oak and Spanish peanuts. Incredible. This lives up to the buzz surrounding it. The aroma is pleasant and quite balanced, though slightly intense. Lovely peanut and vanilla scents. The palate is where this truly excels. Distinct peanut flavors unlike any bourbon I've tasted before. Exceptionally well-balanced.

Enjoy Bookers with a formidable companion. It's alluring and draws you in with notes of vanilla, leather, and tobacco... like a spider. However, at approximately 65% ABV, you might suddenly need to protect yourself. The instant I pour a Booker's, I let out a yell directly into the glass—a wild, guttural cry filled with furious profanity. You must assert your authority. It's best if the Booker's is intimidated by you.

Consumed straight. I adore it. Significant warmth, as expected from a high proof. Allow it a moment to rest, and you'll detect notes of caramel and vanilla, reminiscent of a fall candle. Take a sip, then let it sit. Inhaling through my mouth, I get that distinct peanut butter sensation, similar to the dry peanut butter filling in a Reese's cup. Love it!

I acquired six bottles two years ago. Last night, my local liquor store contacted me, stating they discovered six cases of this in their storage. I negotiated a deal to purchase two cases at a very low price. Out of all the bourbon I've tasted, this particular release is the only one I've actively sought out. It is undeniably a remarkable serving.

Sweet caramel on the nose, followed by vanilla and dark chocolate upfront, with a peanut finish. Typical oily and rich Booker's character - a bit intense initially, but the flavors emerge with a few drops of water. Excellent, and lives up to expectations.
