About this bottle

The 2020 edition of Widow Jane The Vaults, a 15-year-old bourbon, is a combination of whiskeys from Tennessee and Indiana aged between 15 and 17 years. Lisa Wicker, President, Distiller, and Blender for Widow Jane, chose the barrels from rickhouses located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This batch was subsequently finished in casks made from 5-year air-seasoned Appalachian oak, and it is presented non-chill-filtered at 49.5% ABV, with production exceeding 5,000 bottles.

Widow Jane's The Vaults 15-year is renowned for its unique limestone-filtered water source, enhancing flavor and aroma. This vault selection comprises their oldest and rarest stock, masterfully blended by Head Distiller Lisa Wicker and aged 5 years in Appalachian oak casks. Appearance: Deep amber with a pleasing sheen when held to the light. The slow-moving legs suggest an oily texture and a long finish. Aroma: Intensely aromatic, detectable from six inches away. Top notes of cherry and vanilla are accompanied by a delightful nutmeg/cinnamon spice. Deeper notes near the rim reveal barrel characteristics, with a hint of bright citrus. Palate: Intense spice dominates initially, followed by woody notes and a pleasingly complex finish. The mid-palate is warm and acidic with a medium-heavy body. The finish is ripe and pleasant, with lingering notes of burnt sugar or vanilla. The citrus is subtle, offering a transient clean sensation just before the finish – exquisite. This pour is highly rewarding. While the intensity of the Appalachian oak and spice can be a bit much at times, the welcoming and long-lasting finish is remarkable. The equally intense aromatics prepare you for the experience; it's hard not to appreciate a drink that continually challenges and surprises. – a scotch enthusiast

Tasted at a restaurant in Orange County after exploring their whiskey collection. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I began with a different bourbon and then moved to this 15-year-old expression. This is truly exceptional. As a significant admirer of Blantons, including their various expressions, this offering is certainly contending for a top spot. Having grown up near the Kentucky bourbon region, I consider myself a connoisseur, but this is making me re-evaluate my preferences.

Aroma of bing cherry, pineapple, menthol, banana cream pie filling, and soft cedar. On the palate, the tropical fruits truly stand out with more intense shaved wood and spice. A long and subtle finish definitely enhances the complexity.

Wonderful. Caramel over warm butter on your tongue is the ideal description. I appreciated the higher proof compared to the widow jane 13 year.
