White Oak Akashi Shin

Timing: Allow 5 minutes to rest. Appearance: Light hay-like flecks alongside mature wheat hues, like a sunset, with streaks clinging to the glass; Smell: Malty notes common to Japanese or Scotch whisky, with pineapple, a hint of cherry, and sherry undertones; Taste: An initial tartness transitions to soft, velvety fruit flavors, more cherries and stone fruit, a very plain taste lacking depth; Finish: A brief, pleasant aftertaste with lingering soft notes, reminiscent of a harsh Hibiki 🤨, unremarkable but it is from Akashi!

Subtle aroma, hints of salt and wood, seems restrained. The taste is airy, with new oak (as indicated), spice, and ginger, all quite mild. The mouthfeel is somewhat cool, with alcohol that's almost muted? Conclusion: Suitable for warm weather in an old-fashioned, or served over ice for beginners. Not particularly memorable.

Its scent is very herbaceous and spicy, showing notes of black pepper, clove, and oak. The taste is quite similar, starting with a pepper burst and finishing with a medium-long oaky note. There's a touch of sweetness and whispers of vanilla. The mouthfeel is unexpectedly rich and oily.

I found it quite disappointing. The flavor is flat, and the finish is forgettable. Adding a drop of water helps make it palatable. Otherwise, it's a whiskey I'd prefer to disregard. I doubt I'll purchase it again soon.

Quick tasting Smell: dry, floral, herbal, burnt caramel, hazelnut Taste: slightly woody, light caramel, and little else besides a faint metallic note. Personal rating: 72/100 Not great, like a watered-down Johnny Walker Red.

This whisky is quite light. The aroma is faint. It begins with a touch of wood and concludes with a mild sweetness.
