WhistlePig The Boss Hog VII: Magellan's Atlantic

Heavy notes of cinnamon and allspice, along with oak and rye spices. It's akin to a spirited, intricate cinnamon bun. Serves as a nice complement to the banana and nutty notes found in Booker's Grandma's Batch. Overall, I'm very fond of this one. It still doesn't quite match The Black Prince, but few have astounded me as much as that one did. I prefer it over BH V and likely BH VI, though Samurai Scientist was underrated in my opinion. It's an excellent whiskey with a significant price tag. For me, it's worth it, but I can certainly understand if others don't feel the same.

on the nose: rich caramel and dark cocoa notes. a whisper of vanilla. i detect some allspice. faint nail polish remover, but not unpleasantly so. i also notice some brighter fruity aromas mixed in. tongue: it begins with a velvety texture coating your mouth for over half the experience. it delivers a great kick and a very deep and full spice profile. truly warm cinnamon undertones and a pleasant sting at the finish. it invigorates you, so to speak. i also detect notes of light coffee on both the palate and aroma.

Amazing! I'm so impressed by how Whistlepig keeps innovating with their Boss Hogs. Each one has such a unique flavor. This one starts with intense, almost incense-like cinnamon, then finishes with a complex, long-lasting taste of various aged woods. Sipping this makes me imagine being on an old ship with timbers that have bravely held together through countless voyages on the high seas. Fantastic.

Spanish oak imparts a pleasant sherry-like influence. Nose: Cinnamon, Cloves, Raisins, Cotton Candy, Caramel Apples, Bubble Gum, Zested Orange Peels, Ginger, Dark Chocolate Palate: Cherries, Milk Chocolate, Bubble Gum, Cloves, Chili Pepper, Cinnamon, Peaches, Licorice, Tobacco, Raisins, Figs Finish: Almonds, Raisins, Dates, Figs, Lavender, Roses, Cotton Candy, Plums

Remarkably complex. On the nose, dark cocoa, cinnamon, black cherries, and graham crackers. The aroma is stunning; I could linger there indefinitely. Palate presents a smooth mouthfeel, with black cherry, molasses, brown sugar, dark cocoa, and cinnamon. Having been aged for 17 years, this is among the finest whiskies I've ever encountered, and undoubtedly the best rye.

This is absolutely the greatest Rye I've ever had the pleasure to drink. It's smooth, packed with flavor, and has a brilliant aroma. If it weren't for the $500 price, I would have bought one myself! Luckily, I got to try it as a gift for my dad.
