The fourth edition in Westland's Cask Exchange series is the Westland Lucky Envelope Cask Exchange. This program involves Westland sending used whiskey barrels to a brewery, which then ages beer in them before returning the seasoned casks to the distillery. For this particular bottling, Lucky Envelope Brewery, located in Seattle's Ballard area, was chosen, and their Imperial Stout imparted its character to the barrels. These barrels had previously been used to store malbec wine. This American single malt was crafted from a five-malt barley combination and was distilled directly after a peated spirit. It was aged for 69 months and has a proof of 102.6. Sales are restricted to Washington State.

Rich scent, the beer is noticeable, but my knowledge of beer is limited for identification. An intense wave of flavor, exceptionally fiery and piquant. Caramel, porter, and heat, all harmonized. Medium body, moderate finish, with spice and porter notes remaining the longest. The depth is incredibly satisfying. Superbly executed.
This expression from Westland is rich and creamy. It's remarkable how much body the beer aging imparts to the final product. I've enjoyed exploring these drams as they've been released. These are incredible finds if you can get your hands on them.
I’d sip on this smoky tart whiskey again if someone else bought it, but it’s not my favorite offering from Westland. Dried fruit comes through with a finish of coffee.
