Wemyss The Spice King

The Spice King is part of the Wemyss malts collection, which offers easily drinkable whiskies. They have a honeyed option, a peaty one, a balanced highland one, and this Spice King. Is it good? Let's find out. Bottled at 46% ABV. On the nose, everything starts off nicely. Notes of brown cake, dark fruits, Christmas cake, a subtle red wine aroma, and cinnamon. On the palate, things begin to fade. There are notes of smoke, ash, and raisins, but they aren't well-balanced. Aftertaste is too harsh, oaky, and peaty, lacking balance and being a bit unpleasant. Overall, this is a dram that could definitely be improved, especially the aftertaste. 72 out of 100.

Thoroughly enjoying this on my first tasting. The aroma is fruity and sweet. The palate presents caramelized brown sugar and wood, followed by spices and some peat. The overall character is sweet and spicy. It's well-balanced, with the spice lingering in the finish. A fantastic discovery during my budget-friendly search!

Aroma: Sweet grain character mingled with darker fruits, apple juice, a whisper of smoke, sweetness, and sherry notes. Flavor: A touch dry, green apples, smoky conclusion. The aroma is preferable.

A great surprise, initially soft then bursting with saltiness and smoke. A friend enjoyed it.
