Weller Special Reserve 7 year Stitzel Weller

This Weller Special Reserve has aged for 7 years and was bottled in 1971, not long before Stitzel Weller was sold to Norton Simon. It presents a deep amber hue and is thick with oils, coating the glass with endless, viscous legs. The aroma is immediately sweet, featuring vanilla, butterscotch, oak, brown sugar, and hints of buttery popcorn and cherry syrup, all capped by a faint whiff of alcohol. The taste is gentle and chewy, primarily on the front of the palate. It is very creamy and oaky, with sweet vanilla and a subtle mustiness that travels to the back of the tongue. The mouth is left full of dry oak. The finish is of medium length, with the creaminess persisting alongside fading oak that eventually gives way to a touch of cherry. Subsequent aromas include a blend of fettuccine Alfredo and algaecide. There are also faint scents of nacho cheese mixed with the sharp tang of miracle whip.

Rich caramel and raisin notes. After some time, I detected a subtle mineral and orange aroma, reminiscent of Dickel, along with chocolate chip cookie dough flavors in the middle. It's complex and very good.
