Wayne Gretzky No. 99 Red Cask Whisky

I detect leather and something like thinner, with a touch of sweetness on the nose. The taste isn't very complex. It reminds me of butterscotch/caramel and has a creamy texture with a hint of spice, and you can faintly taste grapes. There's also an odd solvent-like flavor. The finish fades quickly, except for the butterscotch. If you prefer very sweet whiskies, this might be for you, but it's a bit too much for my preference. Considering the price, it's not bad but not impressive. I likely won't purchase it again, but I wouldn't refuse a pour if offered. While 99 was the greatest in hockey, this whisky is subpar.

This drink is neither bad nor particularly interesting. The wine influence isn't strong enough for its cask designation. Leather and brown sugar notes are apparent. Glad I sampled it, but wish I'd tried it at a bar before buying a bottle. I wouldn't refuse it, but I don't plan on getting another. The score of 90 seems a bit generous. Decent, not outstanding.

A basic rye that falls short of being a top performer. The strong aroma suggests this spirit might struggle to stand on its own. A second sniff reveals burnt sugar candy and vanilla. The initial sweetness disappears fast, replaced by a mild, slow-fading chili warmth. It lacks depth but earns points for its iconic association. Too expensive.

Not very enjoyable! It tastes like a young whiskey hastily put together for sales purposes. I no longer drink it neat. I only use it in mixed drinks and even then, I hesitate. I did not enjoy any of the bottlings from that hockey player, including his wines and ice wines. Unfortunately, they do not live up to his great hockey performance! It's quite disappointing.

The aroma is great, but as soon as the whiskey goes down your throat, you feel let down. There's no lasting flavor and no finish. I couldn't identify any specific notes because they were gone in an instant. For its price, there are many superior whiskeys available.

This spirit shares many characteristics with rum. Nose: Brown sugar and vanilla. Palate: Butterscotch transitions to salted caramel around the middle, with a hint of maple syrup. Finish is somewhat fiery, short to medium in duration, leaving a brown sugar aftertaste.
