About this bottle

Virgil Kaine's Eighth Notch is the eighth bottling from the South Carolina-based producer. The name comes from the final position on a diesel train's throttle. This release begins as a 5-year-old straight bourbon. Discarded vanilla beans are utilized to create a vanilla smoke, which is then put into toasted barrels and sealed. The bourbon is transferred into these vanilla-smoked barrels, and additional vanilla smoke is introduced into the remaining space. The barrels are then sealed, and the bourbon ages for two months before being bottled at barrel proof. It will be available at select retailers in December 2022. (SRP $80)

Rufus Souza 3.5

Nose: Vanilla, caramel, smoke, and toasted marshmallow. Palate: Oak and vanilla upfront, some bitterness mid-palate, followed by more smoke and marshmallow at the finish. Finish: Reasonably quick for its strength, but the smoke, vanilla, and oak notes are present.
