I agree, not a professional opinion. But a pleasant whiskey to drink given its age. I sampled the lot 4 batch. The aroma is sugary, with a light caramel taste. It improves as the glass empties. I generally like all of the spirits from Vikre; it's no surprise they created a quality whiskey.

About this bottle
Vikre Distillery in Duluth, Minnesota, launched Sugarbush Whiskey in November 2015 as their first in a series of experimental spirits. This whiskey's mash bill consists of 60% corn, 25% barley, and 15% rye. It undergoes a double aging process: initially in used port barrels with maplewood staves for under 24 months, followed by a finishing period in bourbon barrels that previously held maple syrup. The ABV is 44%.

Batch 7 Slightly smoother than Batch 6. It has an amber appearance. The nose is sweet. Maple is prominent on the palate initially. The sweetness gradually fades, leaving a lingering woodiness. Adding a bit of water or ice enhances it, but avoid over-diluting.
I'm not an expert. I just know my preferences. For a micro-distillery product, this is the best I've sampled. It's smooth, not harsh. This isn't rough homemade liquor; it's complex, and when held in your mouth, numerous flavors emerge.
I offered it to over a dozen people, and no one enjoyed it. The aroma was quite harsh and the finish was disagreeable. It performs adequately in an old fashioned cocktail. It is not at all worth the cost.
Batch 6 (46.5% abv) This whisky is clearly more mature and full-bodied compared to earlier batches. It has a gentle and soft lingering sweetness.
A good, potent spirit. I acquired most of a bottle from a friend who disliked it. Definitely worth the reduced price.
