About this bottle

Joseph Magnus Distillery is a participant in Washington D.C.'s expanding craft spirit industry, which has gained prominence recently. The brand name references an old capital city label that was lost during American Prohibition. Despite being a new enterprise, the project benefits from experienced professionals, and members of the Magnus family are involved in the brand's revival. Their stated objective is to produce a London Dry-style gin suitable for classic cocktails.

I don't usually drink gin straight, but I always taste it neat to fully appreciate the flavor. It has a classic juniper flavor with citrus notes. However, this one definitely has an oily, nutty characteristic, likely from the sesame. It's very smooth and mild with a slight alcohol bite. Excellent in a gin and tonic with a couple of dashes of cardamom bitters.

This is an excellent choice for those who favor citrus-forward gins. The prolonged finish is pleasing, especially if you desire a subtle flavor that lingers. It has a slightly more pronounced alcohol presence in the finish compared to some other navy-strength gins. Nevertheless, it's a reliable purchase from this producer.

I've observed the evolution of this gin since 2015, and it's quite remarkable now. It has subtle juniper and prominent spice, with a sweet citrus finish. I'd consistently keep it stocked at home.

This might become my preferred gin. I'm not fond of a strong pine cleaner taste, so this is ideal for me. It's slightly better than a gin from Sunset Hills (priced at $29), though it costs a bit more ($34).

Sweet, vibrant, and very powerful. Makes an exceptional Bees Knees, where the fig notes meld wonderfully with the honey syrup. Well done by Jos A Magnus & Co.

Dante Kumar 5.0

Amazing! Crisp, light, and one of the best martinis I've ever had.
