Very Olde St. Nick 12 Year Antique Barrel Kentucky Bourbon (Lot 2)

Tasting - 2 oz, neat in a Glen Cairn glass, my sample was Lot#3. Rich, coating, and chocolatey with subtle hints of cereal bar and a touch of raisin. It possesses a nutty flavor and a delicious oakiness that is very appealing. As it sat in the glass, the aroma became more pronounced. It evokes older Willett bottlings, and I am persuaded by the label (Bardstown, KY) and taste profile that this could be the origin, although other reviews suggest a Vanwinkle connection. It strongly resembles the popular "Hello, Wednesday" selection to me. The 12 years in barrels have served it well. The richness is particularly pleasing, and the slight alcohol kick just before a wonderfully long finish is well-executed. I loved it, though I did not purchase it. That said, the cost to acquire it is considerable. If price were not a factor, I would absolutely include this in a top 10 list if you appreciate a bourbon that boldly features a forward rye character, which I very much do. When price is considered, it makes one wince.

This is excellent and quite complex given the proof. Features a pleasant wheated aroma, a touch of heat at first followed by moderately dry wood, and a tart finish. Sadly, there's limited information available on this bottle, besides that it was produced by the Van Winkle family from sourced spirits. An easy drinker, comparable to Weller 12 and older. Update: Midway through this bottle and it continues to impress me. Re-tasted tonight after a pour of some more oak-forward bourbons (GTS 19 and Cream of Kentucky B1) and I detected notes of strawberries and cream, with less oak than before, though my palate might be overwhelmed from the higher proofs. Still thoroughly enjoying this.

Nose: lots of vanilla Body: sweet vanilla and powdered sugar with orange at the front, which then gives way to green apple Finish: green apple continues into some woody tannin notes This is an interesting take on green apple with a vanilla combination instead of the caramel combination I've experienced with EHT, Rock Hill Farms, etc.

Among the best I've tried. Remarkably smooth. Possesses a truly intricate flavor profile!

Quite good, with a somewhat unusual finish that almost tastes like peanut butter.

Lively aroma with citrus, leading to a fruity and very slightly spicy finish.
