Treaty Oak Red Handed Bourbon (Kentucky & Virginia)

Another brief tasting. I regretted not supporting local distilleries and was glad to visit one for the first time since January. This was definitely better than their own grain-to-glass bourbon, mostly because a portion of the blend comes from Heaven Hill, and the nutty Elijah Craig character really shines through. However, I believe these Texas whiskies, especially the bourbons, don't fare well when diluted. It highlights their age. Perhaps cask strength is the best option if you're seeking a Texas bourbon.

Smell: Oak, piquant notes, and burnt sugar. Texture: Moderately to fully bodied, viscous, smooth, and harmonious. Conceals its alcohol admirably. Taste: Sugary and mellow, with well-blended spice. Moderate depth.

The aroma is lacking, but the wonderful, viscous mouthfeel compensates. Initial notes of cinnamon spice give way to a slightly sweet vanilla finish.

Again has cherry like their bourbon but less intense. Rye spice is present but subdued. A little honey. No burn.

A typical sweet bourbon, but the distinct bubble gum note really stood out to me.

Vanilla nose, cinnamon vanilla brown sugar palate, boozy spicy finish.
