Trail's End 8 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished With Oregon Oak

A disappointment. The aroma was intriguing. Initially, it brought to mind Willet Pot Still Reserve, but then notes of peppermint and bubblegum emerged as it evolved, with a hint of cinnamon and anise. It strongly resembles Bazooka Joe gum. The taste was light, but acceptable. This might have been influenced by trying it after some stronger spirits (such as Booker's 2018-4). In any event, the Bazooka Joe character reappeared. There were also some faint herbal notes, wood tannin, and dried fruit (a touch of apricot?). Unfortunately, I believe this was a poor use of $30-40. In my humble opinion, that money could have been better allocated towards something considerably superior.

I purchased this on a whim, as usual, when Elmer T Lee was still completely unavailable. I reside in Oregon, so this spirit is readily found...The bourbon is sourced from Kentucky and re-bottled in Oregon white oak barrels...I was genuinely surprised by the excellent taste and smoothness of this bourbon...A fantastic value at $34.94 for 750ml. I ENDORSE this spirit for anyone looking for a smooth sipper with a touch of spice.

Batch No. 2, tasted again after being half consumed and stored for about a year. The bubblegum and anise notes have diminished. In their place, I detect more of a light creme brulee. Perhaps this is due to having sampled several other spirits beforehand. Regardless, the flavors have certainly improved. My sole criticism is the delicate intensity of the flavor and the brief duration of the finish. There is no harshness, even when inhaling deeply from the glass.

Toured the tasting room in Hood River, OR and picked up Batch 004. This is an 8-year-old KY Straight Bourbon Whiskey that's finished with Oregon Oak staves. It tastes like a bourbon from a toasted barrel. Very mellow and classic bourbon character with a faint woody note reminiscent of toasted graham crackers. A truly enjoyable and distinct bourbon! 7.7/10

Private select Westmoreland liquor. Barrel 994; 67%abv Nose: raisin, dark caramel, cinnamon. Palate: substantial and sweet. Plum, dark brown sugar, hints of dark chocolate. Dark oak. A considerable heat undiluted, yet it doesn't present as 67%. Sweet vanilla. Finish: corn and grain. Medium short

I was happily surprised by this Oregon-finished Bourbon. It is spicy and full-bodied, yet smooth and flavorful. The aroma is sweet and airy, with a great mouthfeel. It is an easy-drinking bourbon with a wonderfully easy finish. I am a fan! It might even deserve 5 stars...
