Tomintoul 33 year old

Tomintoul is one of those lower-tier Speyside whiskies that are mostly just fruity juice, lacking real body or excitement, which I typically avoid. That said, a couple of years ago, I found a miniature of a 33-year-old expression. I bought it thinking it must be the best this distillery offers. The first thing I noticed was its 43% ABV. The full bottle costs nearly $1000, which made the experience more intriguing. On the nose, I detect classic, very standard Speyside flavors: Pear, cotton candy, pineapple, and fruit salad. On the palate, it's very sweet. Cotton candy, Bubblegum, Pear, and hay. The aftertaste follows the same pattern. Pear, very fruity, bubblegum, hay. Overall, if you're reading this and value your money, don't spend a fortune on this. There's no difference between this dram and any other 12-year-old Speyside single malt like a Glenfiddich or Glen Moray. It's completely not worth it in my opinion; my score for this is a very disappointing 80 out of 100.
