Jaylen Shin 4.0

This single barrel selection featured a honey malt mash bill, curated by the Cleveland Bourbon Co-op. This is outstanding. The aroma is very characteristic of other Tom Foolery products, which I suspect stems from their yeast. It's difficult to describe – it smells somewhat like almonds and freshly baked bread. The palate is superb. Unlike many ryes, I don't detect any dill pickle notes. Instead, there's honey, some rye spice, and fruity undertones reminiscent of a very ripe banana. The finish has a pleasant lingering quality. It's distinct in a positive way. This distillery is producing excellent spirits. It's definitely worth purchasing.

Very smooth with a gentle bite. It tastes sweet, though I can't identify the specific flavor. Mine was cask strength, but only the rye character is apparent.

Nose: evokes black pepper spice Taste: a gentle warmth, with a distinct 'rye bread' quality...I'm just not a huge fan of rye whiskey

Terry Villasenor 3.5
