The Prideful Goat 6 Year Cask Strength Rye

The nose is quite enjoyable. A ton of spice with citrus and heat. You can tell upfront this is a high proof rye but it isn’t super overpowering. Some of the nose is sweet, like an orange citrus candy. The palate is really good. A great mouthfeel that coats in caramel and spice with a touch of heat. This really coats everything and goes perfect into the finish. So far the mouthfeel and palate are my favorite. The finish has a toffee note that combines with the continued citrus flavor. The finish doesn’t fade for quite sometime. The very end has a touch of pepper with the citrus notes. Overall, this is pretty good. I enjoy this bottle and happy I was able to try it. Would I buy it again, I’m not too sure. $55 isn’t a bad price but I do like other ryes better. I’m happy to try this bottle and even tested it as an old fashioned. Does really well!

As it opens up, I detect more cinnamon and baking rye spices. Incredible smell. Taste - Lots of toffee and fall apple cider donut flavors. A slight hint of bitter dark chocolate. A pleasant vanilla finish with a rye character. Overall - The aroma is superior to the taste. It has a medium viscosity, and the finish is quite nice. The palate isn't complex, but it's not as spicy as most 95/5 ryes. Honestly, I wouldn't have guessed it was a 95/5 rye. It's definitely on the sweeter side. Absolutely worth the cost. This seems like a rye for bourbon fans, offering more dark notes than rye characteristics. 4.3

The aroma was quite typical of MGP 95/5 rye. It had rye spice, herbal notes, and dill, but a hint of ethanol was present. I enjoyed the palate more than the nose. The taste was classic rye. The finish wasn't particularly long. I'm happy to own it and will certainly drink it, though I probably wouldn't purchase another bottle. It's definitely one you should sample before buying, as it's not the most affordable bottle. Once again, it's not bad, just pricey for what it offers. The author's handle has been removed.

Nose: Cherry cola, pie crust, nutmeg. Taste: Intense heat, cinnamon, cherries, bitters, black pepper (reminiscent of cherry cola). This is definitely a spicy one. It's hot but rich and full-bodied, a solid pour if you can handle the intensity.

Spicy with minimal sweetness (likely due to the 95% corn, 5% malted barley mash bill). A bit disappointing as I was anticipating this brand, but in a blind comparison, it ranked third out of three, behind Alberta Premium and Templeton 6 year.

Earthy, citrusy orange and pine aroma with a tangy, citrus burnt orange and light pine taste. A short toasted orange finish.
